Alexa is a biomedical engineer originally from Kentucky, with a strong passion for advancing medical research and innovation. She graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and a Certificate of Advanced Spanish Language. After completing a year of clinical research at UCLA, Alexa’s focus shifted to cardiothoracic research at Stanford University, where she is currently leading a project investigating a potentially novel gene in atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease.

In the spring, Alexa plans to apply to MD-PhD programs with the goal of becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon. Her long-term vision is to lead a laboratory focused on developing biotechnological cardiac devices that can transform patient care in cardiovascular medicine.

Originally from Michigan, Madison Butchko is a rising senior at Yale University, pursuing a B.S. in Physics and a B.A. in East Asian Studies. Her academic journey reflects her passion for the intersection of science and the humanities. Madison has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as President of both the Yale Society of Physics Students and Her Campus, where she bridges her diverse interests. Outside of academics, Madison loves to read, do calligraphy, play Chopin on the piano, bake, and do long-distance running!

Due to his background, it is no surprise he has a deep passion for technology and software development, as it has provided him, and many other families like his, a way to communicate and connect with loved ones worldwide. As a Computer Science student at UVA’s School of Engineering and Applied Science with a minor in Data Science, Zaid is deeply excited by the freedom that programming provides him. He views software development and programming as the perfect outlet to combine his creative and technical sides and is thrilled to spend a summer working on projects that are efficient, beautiful, and which unite us globally.

This is his fourth year with the Global Teaching Project as an AP Physics 1 Teaching Assistant, and he is excited to share his passion for finding the elegance within the equations and why it is powerful to have this raw understanding of the natural world. In his efforts to expand the physics community, Wyatt has served as a Co-President for the Yale chapter of the Society of Physics Students and board member of the undergraduate student advisory committee. He has broad interests in quantum gravity, field theory, string theory, quantum many-body systems, and quantum information. Additionally, he loves collecting rocks and minerals as well as hiking. As a first-generation college student himself, he is excited to help mentor and guide our students.
