Yale Honors GTP Founder with 2025 Public Service Award

Yale has named Matt Dolan ’82, as recipient of the 2025 Yale Alumni Public Service Award for his work as founder and CEO of the Global Teaching Project.  The Award is presented annually to a single Yale alumnus to recognize “sustained public service that is individual, innovative, impactful, and inspiring.”

The Award announcement stated:

“Yale is honoring Matt Dolan for his work as founder and CEO of the Global Teaching Project, which provides promising high school students in rural and underserved areas access to advanced STEM courses they need to achieve their full potential, but which their schools otherwise may not be able to offer, due to limited resources and a chronic, and worsening, shortage of qualified teachers.

For the past nine years, Matt’s focus has been on rural Mississippi communities that are among the most impoverished in the nation. GTP has worked with nearly 50 public high schools to offer AP courses in four subjects—AP Biology, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Physics 1, and AP Statistics—to thousands of students, free of charge….

As College Board, which administers the AP program, recently wrote to the U.S. Department of Education, GTP “has proven uniquely successful in addressing disparate access to AP STEM courses, an issue of critical national importance.”

“I am very mindful that many alums are engaged in a wide range of highly worthy tasks that also merit recognition, and within our organization, many people very much share in the credit for what we do,” Dolan stated.  “On behalf of all those doing that important work, I am deeply grateful for the Award, which I hope will benefit our program and the students we serve.”

“The fact is, I only have a supporting role in our effort,” Dolan added.  “The most consequential work is done by our educators and students, who take on the challenge of academic rigor so that they may achieve a better future for themselves and their communities.  My job is simply to help them do their job.”

Prior to the Award announcement, Yale News also published a detailed account of GTP’s work.  The Public Service Award will be presented at a program on the Yale campus later this month, at which Public Service Awards also will be presented to recipients in the graduate/professional and undergraduate student categories.
