Yale Scholar-Athlete Joins GTP as Director of Outreach and Student Engagement

Oso, a Texas native, graduated from Yale in 2023 with a degree in Biomedical Engineering.

While at Yale, Oso excelled in the classroom, in the arts, and on the football field.  Oso has earned acclaim for his art, and also was a standout defensive end, earning recognition as one of the nation’s top scholar-athletes.  Oso was among just 15 finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, the “academic Heisman” presented by National Football Foundation to college football’s premier scholar-athlete, for which Oso was awarded a postgraduate scholarship.

Yale scholar-athlete Oso Ifesinachukwu has joined the Global Teaching Project as Director of Outreach and Student Engagement. Oso first began work with GTP in 2019 while still a Yale undergraduate, serving as both a Teaching Assistant for GTP’s AP STEM courses, and as a counselor at GTP’s residential instructional programs in the summer at Mississippi State and in January at Jackson State.  Oso also has served in an informal capacity as mentor to scores of promising high school students from rural Mississippi who have sought his guidance on their academic and career plans.

As GTP’s Director of Outreach and Student Engagement, Oso will work directly with students and faculty, both in person at their schools and virtually.  Oso will encourage the students to take on the challenge of advanced science courses, and help them progress in classes offered through GTP, including AP Biology, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Physics 1, and AP Statistics.

“I am excited to take on this expanded role with GTP,” Oso said.  “I have seen what our students are capable of if given the opportunity.  My job is to make sure that our students also recognize their own potential, and develop the skills to excel in a rigorous curriculum.”

“We are extremely fortunate to have Oso as Director of Outreach and Student Engagement,” said Global Teaching Project CEO Matt Dolan.  “Oso is, by any measure, one of the outstanding young people in our nation.  He not only has the subject matter expertise to help our students.  Oso also is an exemplar of success, displaying, in abundance, the personal attributes and work ethic our students aspire to emulate.”
