GTP’s 10th Annual Summer Program Achieves Milestone, Earns Praise
The Global Teaching Project has achieved a key program milestone, successfully completing its 10th annual Advanced STEM Summer Preparatory Program.
Over 100 participants gathered at Mississippi State University for the residential program featuring immersive instruction in AP STEM courses that students will take through GTP in the 2026-2027 school year. Students and teachers from 19 public high schools in underserved Mississippi communities joined accomplished educators from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Yale, Harvard, and Georgia Tech, among other universities.
Like all GTP programs, the Summer Program was offered free of charge.
GTP’s Advanced STEM Access Program provides promising high school students in rural and high-poverty Mississippi communities access to advanced science courses they need to achieve their full potential, but which their schools otherwise may not be able to offer, due to limited resources, and a chronic, and worsening, shortage of qualified teachers. To date, GTP has served over 3,000 students at more than 50 Mississippi public high schools.

The Advanced STEM Summer Preparatory Program helps students prepare for the rigor of AP STEM courses they will take through GTP. Even students who have the aptitude and work ethic needed to succeed often have significant gaps in their substantive foundations. The Summer STEM Program begins to fill in those gaps.
Based on student feedback in post-program assessments, the 2026 Summer STEM Program achieved that goal.

The Summer STEM Program is just one component of GTP’s blended instructional model, which includes both in-person and remote instruction, teacher training, high-dose tutoring, lesson plans and pedagogical support, physical textbooks and workbooks; online resources; technology; supplies; and semi-annual university-based residential instructional programs—culminating in the May 2027 AP exams.
GTP looks forward to building on the work done at the Summer Program in the 2026-2027 school year.
