GTP Summer Program Photo Gallery: the Joy of Learning
As every parent knows, teenagers can be hard to figure, particularly when they do the unexpected.
It is not typical for teenagers to take a significant part of their summer break to engage in rigorous coursework in AP Biology, AP Computer Science, AP Physics, and AP Statistics. Yet that is precisely what students who chose to attend the Global Teaching Project’s 10th annual Advanced STEM Summer Preparatory Program did.
In June, students from 19 rural high schools across the state came to the Mississippi State campus to participate in an immersive, residential learning program that helped prepare them for the rigor of AP STEM courses in the upcoming school year. (Like all GTP programs, the Summer Program is free of charge.)
Why did so many students choose to come to Starkville? The Summer Program photo gallery, linked below, presents a clear answer—learning is fun, particularly when done in the company of other promising students from around the state while having access to the considerable resources of a major university.
The benefits of the Summer Program will not be fully evident until well into the future, as students advance in rigorous curricula. However, as the photo gallery shows, the students at the Summer Program already have begun working toward high academic achievement.
